Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about 1-to-1 music production, industry and mentoring sessions.

How do I get started as a music producer?

You don’t need expensive equipment or industry connections to start. A laptop, a DAW and a willingness to practise are enough. I can help you build the right foundations, develop your sound and avoid many of the mistakes I made when starting out.

Can I become a music producer with no experience?

Absolutely. My 1-to-1 sessions can start from the very basics, from choosing your software and making your first beats to understanding how the music industry actually works.

Do I need to know music theory to produce music?

No. Music theory can definitely help, but you don’t need years of traditional training. I can teach you the practical theory I use when creating melodies, loops and chord progressions without overcomplicating it.

What equipment do I need to start producing music?

You can start with surprisingly little: a computer, DAW and headphones. Before spending money on expensive equipment and plugins, I can help you understand what you actually need for the type of music you want to make.

What music production software should I use?

There’s no single “best” DAW. I personally work across software including Logic Pro, FL Studio, Pro Tools and Ableton. Your best option depends on what you want to create and how you like to work.

Can you teach me how to make beats and loops?

Yes. We can work through melodies, drums, chord progressions, sound selection, arrangement, effects, plugins and creating loops that artists and producers actually want to use.

Can you teach me chord progressions and melodies?

Yes. I can break down chord progressions, melodies and music theory from a producer’s perspective, focusing on techniques you can actually use when making music.

Can you review my beats, loops or songs?

Definitely. Send or bring your work and we can break it down together. I’ll give you direct feedback on what’s working, what could be improved and what I would personally change.

Can you teach recording and mixing?

Yes. I’m a qualified audio engineer as well as a producer. We can cover recording vocals, vocal chains, EQ, compression, Auto-Tune, effects, mixing, mastering and how to achieve a more professional sound.

How do I get placements as a music producer?

There isn’t one secret method. Good music matters, but so do relationships, consistency, networking and knowing how to get your music to the right people. I can share the strategies and lessons I’ve learned from getting records placed with major artists.

Can you teach me how to network in the music industry?

Yes. We can cover how to approach producers and artists, send music properly, build genuine relationships, follow up without becoming annoying and make yourself someone people actually want to work with.

Can you help me build my producer or artist brand?

Yes. We can look at your social media, content, artwork, image, niche and overall positioning. Sometimes the music is good, but people simply aren’t being given a reason to remember the person behind it.

How important is social media for music producers?

Extremely important. Social media can put your music in front of artists, producers and potential clients anywhere in the world. I can help you identify your niche, improve your content and turn your profile into something that represents you properly.

Can you teach me about royalties, publishing and contracts?

Yes. I can explain the fundamentals of producer splits, publishing, master royalties, PROs, placements and common producer agreements based on my experience working in the industry. This is educational guidance rather than legal or financial advice.

Are the sessions suitable for beginners?

Yes. You don’t need placements, thousands of followers or even finished music. If you’re serious about learning, we can build the session around wherever you’re currently at.

Do you offer music production mentoring for teenagers?

Yes. I particularly want to help the next generation of producers, artists and engineers understand how to get started properly. If you’re 14, 15, 16 or simply at the beginning of your journey, we can cover both the creative and business sides of building a career in music. For anyone under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be involved in arranging the session.

Can you help me decide whether music production or engineering is the right career for me?

Yes. If you’re considering a future in music, we can talk realistically about what producers and engineers actually do, the different career paths available, education, income streams and what it’s like building a career in the industry.

Who will I be learning from?

Yoshi, a producer and degree-qualified audio engineer with credits across artists including Lil Baby, Lil Tjay, Tory Lanez, Fivio Foreign, Rich The Kid and more. My production has also been used for a Fortnite sync, and I’ve worked across everything from creating loops and records to recording and mixing artists.

Do you offer 1-to-1 music production sessions in London?

Yes. I’m based in North London and offer personalised 1-to-1 sessions for producers, artists and aspiring engineers who want hands-on guidance with production, recording, mixing, branding or the music business.

Can I book a 1-to-1 session if I don’t live in London?

Yes. Online 1-to-1 mentoring is available worldwide, so you don’t need to be based in London or even the UK. We can screen-share, listen to your music and work through your questions together remotely.

What can we cover during a 1-to-1 session?

Pretty much anything relevant to your journey: beats, loops, melodies, chords, plugins, sound selection, recording, mixing, placements, networking, branding, social media, royalties, contracts or career direction. It’s your session, so we’ll focus on what will help you most.
